Após o derretimento de uma geleira na ilha canadense de Baffin, surgiram paisagens que estavam enterradas sob o gelo do Ártico durante cerca de 40.000 anos, diz um estudo de pesquisadores da Universidade do Colorado em Boulder (EUA), publicado na revista Natural Communications.

Um comunicado, divulgado no site da universidade, relata que em agosto passado os especialistas coletaram 48 amostras de plantas em 30 locais a cerca de 1 km da atual camada gelada, na área revelada pelo degelo — para determinar sua idade.
Uma paisagem escondida por mais de 40 mil anos. O estudo recém-publicado analisa a vegetação coletada nos extremos das camadas de gelo ártico. Os resultados sugerem que as temperaturas do verão deste século são as mais altas dos últimos 115 mil anos.
